I know almost nothing about it (eg historical facts, definitions, etc). At earlier time, I did a quick search about it on the Internet.. I came across a few websites - I noticed there is a bit of self-promoted, fees, etc.. I have no problem with all of that, it is just that I seek something else like authentic definitions and facts about from traditional to modern shamanism. I'll search more from time to time.
In meantime, I'm wondering if anyone come across this thread might would like to share/discuss/etc something about shamanism (both traditional and / or modern, also or from to).. feel free to reply/comment if don't mind.

Shamanism is not a religion in and of itself, but rather a practice that exists within mysticism or religion. Any religion or form of mysticism could have a Shaman - Shaman use trance states to get information from the spirit world. They are either initiated or born into their power. In a lot of ways the defining trait about Shamanism is this idea of "ecstasy", building up to this entirely separate form of almost orgiastic consciousness. That being said, the methods used by Shaman differ around the world. Almost all of the hunter-gatherer ancestors of old had various types of shaman in their religious community.
Some used hallucinogens like peyote, others use dancing and special rhythm, some simply have methods for slipping into a trance state of consciousness that don't require anything extra.

My interest in Shamanism started because I used to play Shaman class in World of Warcraft game as being healer and damage dealer for long time in past. I just never got around to do a serious research on it. I found an article titled "Shamanism in the Modern World" - link: Shamanscave.com - might be interesting reading for anybody.
