Greetings fellow NBA and sports fans.
I don't know about you but I am excited about the upcoming season, mostly due to Australian Ben Simmonds making his awaited debut along with this years number one pick in the draft, Markell Fultz. Simmonds was injured last year and didn't play a game, so Philly are in the unusual position where two number one picks are on the same team both competing for ROY.
This has happened before robbing John Wall of the ROY award with Blake Griffin getting the honours but they were on different teams.
I think Ben Simmonds will be this years top rookie for the record. Whilst he hasn't really translated his game into wins at college level, his numbers suggest a Lebron James type player. If anyone was going to do what Russell Westbrook just did and average a triple double for a season, it would be Ben Simmonds. I don't think he is ever going to do that either. I don't think it will ever be done again, that's just crazy, but you never know, Westbrook somehow produced the mental fortitude to pull it off last season.
Now I have my jizz talk out of the way it is time to talk about the GSW. I see them as juggernauts again this season, possibly another 70 win season and I cant them losing in the finals. No team has really upgraded the roster to the level required to beat Golden State except Houston, but I am not sure that even Houston have the personnel to win a series. Sure Chris Paul will be sweet to ride next to James Harden and Capella will likely be an All-star this year as a result, but what Houston lack is Stephen Curry lol. Just Kidding. Houston is capable but enter...Javale McGee. This is the xfactor guy. Totally off the radar for now but if he gets minutes and doesn't do bonehead shit, which has plagued him in the past, this guy can put up monster numbers. I am not sure why he doesn't start but now but yeah, bonehead shit lol
Where does that leave Cleveland? Cleveland is the team I go for because Lebron James has been my favourite player since he entered the league and I got over Shawn Kemp turning out to be a coke head bust. I still have all the Shawn Kemp cards I collected as a kid if anyone wants to buy them hehe...One dolla
I digress, back to the Cavs. I am not sure they are better this year than last. I like the Crowder pickup, he is a valuable player regardless of his cheap contract. Isiah Thomas, whilst I respect the mans game, advanced stats show him to be the worst defended at point guard. Kyrie was not much better but this is no upgrade for the Cavs. Not offensively of defensively. Which brings me to the other point guard Derek Rose. I am not really sure what to think here. He was ok in New York last Year but nothing elite and certainly not committed to defence.
Love..Is all you need here lol, return of the big man. No more third wheel shit, he has to step it up which he can do. Even with all my Love fapping, I don't see the Cavs with all the offseason turmoil beating GSW.
I remember when the NBA blocked Chris Paul from going to the Lakers many years ago because it would have created a super team. Whilst the Durant situation is not apples for apples here we are
Good on Kevin Durant too, best move he ever made in the NBA as far as winning goes.
I have also read a bit of hype about the 76rs and Lakers making the playoffs. I cant see Philly making the playoffs and here is why. Joel Embiid as good as he is, it is not likely he will remain healthy. His injury record already is atrocious, somewhat resembling Greg Oden I dare say. That leaves the 76rs with two rookies, an injury prone big man, a sharp shooting white boy who is not known for defence JJ Reddick and defensive specialist who has a game similar to Gerald Wallace (who is he right lol).
It is hard to see the 76ers getting more than 30 wins so don't buy into the hype if you are a betting man
As for the Lakers, they could in the west, sneak into the playoffs. Yep, I am a Lonzo fan. Julius Randle is going to bust out this year and he has Brook Lopez who I think is a bit of a meh big man but he can score and will be an improvement over anything since Pau Gasol.
Actually, the more I think about it the more I realise, the Lakers are not going to get into the playoffs. I think I was a bit overhyped on the Lonzo train, he is going to be an elite passer for sure, but unless Brandon Ingram brings some game this year and I mean the Kevin Durant hype he has, then I cant see Lakers making the playoffs. They will need about 45-50 wins to get there.
Oh shit I am starting to talk a bit of shit now and I haven't even got to the Pelicans. Could they be good?
I am thinking they can be great but Demarcus Cousins is unstable
