After taking the cue from Source, I decided to go ahead and make this post. I know there's already the /r/music and jukebox threads. This is something a bit different.
I personally believe that sharing songs with someone is a language in and of itself.
Just as the Egyptians had hieroglyphics.
This is a language cast with song.
I often share music in the chat and I've had several of you say that you enjoy my taste.
What that really means to me is that you enjoy 'me'.
I don't quite know how to explain but I'll do my best: When listening to a particular song I feel that there is an energy that becomes absorbed while listening; this absorption encompasses my thoughts, feelings, mood, the ambiance, my environment, things going on around me, places, etc. It's like during the song, as I'm listening to it, reality itself is being taken in like one lays a paper into a fax machine and then a copy is made; a recording made; energy captured and preserved within the song itself.
So it's more than sharing a song that conjures some familiar memory or reminiscing upon a better time.
There is something energetic in it and personable. Every person has this ability. Music defines who you are and sometimes when words fall short we can communicate with one another in a deeper, more subtle language; a language of the heart; a language of sound.
I'll make this thread my central hub and for the sake of a thought experiment please comment with what you are feeling. Just have a chat. Come in and say hi and listen to some jams I might put on.
Another thing I enjoy tremendously is when you share a song with someone and then they share a song back to you; almost as an answer.
