Hi everybody. Some recent events have made me realize that our forum is missing something rather basic: rules. There aren't any. I know I am the administrator so I could just lay down the law, but I see this place as a shared venture so I thought we could have a sort of tribunal regarding what kind of stuff we will and will not allow here.
Obviously in terms of content my only current thought on the matter is tha we should avoid spam.
As far as flaming and trolling, there is a report button you can all use , but we have guests here as well. There have been some problems with disrespect and such. So let me ask outright, do our users want to be allowed to say what they want about each other without mod intervention? I could see that being a bit of a problem for peaceful cohabitation in the long run.
I would like to assess people's honest thoughts on this matter.

Hmmm. Rules.
You should be able to say anything you want and let your feelings fly, especially if your opinion differs from the group. But at the same time, this place shouldn't just be a pulpit to pour out all one's malice, bitterness, and angst.
Some of the events that led to this thread are events that I probably participated in. I am here to find out certain things. Things about myself, things about GLP, and things about a few others who may or may not be posting here. I may have to be erratic to achieve this. I can't guarantee that I won't draw the ire of any of you in the future.
I can say that I do respect and trust Caylus. I consider her a friend, and my friendship requires nothing from her.

So far, I feel one we can all agree on:
1) forum denizens shall be permitted to discuss subjects as they see fit, with no fear of censorship. Dissenters will not be silenced; the questioning of ideas is considered a part of discourse.

I will consider your suggestions carefully. If anybody has any comments on these rules, arguments for or against, the floor is open.

no anon posting... anon reading only.
(A lot less hassle for the mods - keeps the A-holes at bay...)
plus: people are more interested in the clubs that make them stand in line than not.
You need to write up a disclaimer like glip and loop have.

You need to write up a disclaimer like glip and loop have. I'd rather have the anons rant as they will, and be dealt with by the staff if they step the line, same for us members. A disclaimer? Sure sounds good, I would just state some basic rules like xlegic suggested, so people would have something to show them that there are some rules to follow.

Maybe adapt some suggested rules from this thread into the "Hi There, Welcome All!" and put it back on Cybercosmic - ETC general board again?

As I am a returning guest and not a member, maybe my opinion is mute. If not, than I would concur with xlegic!
