Interesting. Somehow the word itself at its latin root (sinist-), came to be associated with evil. I have often wondered, if that which we consider evil is misunderstood. That's actually funny, as it brings us back full circle to the meaning of these threads OYE made to begin with - That is, the redemption of the fallen angels. From what I have studied these things are related with the rise of christianity, as it became a radicalized movement it was overrun with fanaticism and superstition born from ignorance. I guess even an enlightened leader can't do much in terms of damage control when he has to cater to the irrational needs of a raging mob. A good film which offers some perspective on this is "Agora". I suppose it is really the problem of all religious movements, the tendency to devolve into fanaticism and for the teachings of mystic leaders to be misinterpreted with time. There was a very profound belief system implanted in the rise of Catholicism in the dark ages about hell. And of course the power structure of the church were taken advantage of. In essence religion is a form of brainwashing. When we conceptualize evil as a society it is sometimes difficult to distinguish true morality from that lifelong coloring or brainwashing. And religion is not its only culprit. Politics tends to be equally corrupting.

I don't know exactly how accurate in historic terms that film is, but should you watch it, it makes a pretty good case against the dangers of group think. Now, I do think that of the 3 monotheist big ones, christianity made the biggest effort to reform and improve itself, wether from a need to improve it's pr ratings or out of a genuine will to live up it's own standards. And that saddens me the most seeing people in the XXIst century acting and talking as if they're from the XIth one.

Ah. That is a better description, symbolically speaking. It's not a question of good and evil insomuch as it is a question of balance. Btw guys, my last post was me trying to humour. As someone who's read occult books I have stumbled upon this right-left hand thing, and I can safely say it's mostly a post-Crowley thing that some people who should know better have empolated in an attempt to sell old material as new. The correlation between sinister and left comes from latin where sinistra means left, right is dextra btw. And as you can see, in the english, and post-roman period latin languages, the words for directional points started to correlate right with correct, and left with wrong. This I suspect was due to heavy superstition brought on with the dark ages. I really am left-handed, and I can assure you the only special thing about it is that I look extremely awkward with certain objects, like a pair of scissors. I can safely say that nobles aren't any more privileged or fortunate then beggars. Therefore I owe my fellow man very little. My obligations are scant.

I would argue that precisely because nothing is owed, your contribution has even more meaning.

But nothing to anyone else. In fact, it is true to say that I am only participating in this forum because of her. If she didn't exist, I can fully assure you I wouldn't be here now. Truthfully, I've gotten past the urge to help or teach.

But by doing what's right because you care for your family is perhaps the biggest help you can give to the world, certainly the most important.
