Love is unconditional. Or, it should be. Humans are quite possessed with conditions. It is because we fail to love ourselves. We are not secure in our faith that we are worthy of love. So, we sabotage love for ourselves. We sabotage the love of others.
When you see others, they are a reflection of how you see yourself. When you see something ugly in them, or on them, don't look away in embarrassment. There's no need.
Friendship is one kind of love. When it's done right it brings out the best in people. You don't expect anything of a friend, except for their acceptance of you. If they are a good friend then being in their company brings light to them and you. Nothing further is necessary. Perhaps you do not approve of everything the other does or chooses. But they are your friend, and you know there is no reason to judge them. You support them, because you want them to be happy. And to be good, in their own light, to shine.
Sometimes friends aren't like this and we remain attached. This happens with girlfriends, wives, husbands, boyfriends, roommates, or any other manner of relationship. There's no perfect solution. You see often when we cling to what is dysfunctional in relationships it is because it is the only way we are comfortable sharing our intimacy. We need the abusive aspect in order to feel that we are validated. We seek that which is incomplete in ourselves and recreate old traumas over and over again to compel ourselves.
Platonic love comes from seeing that there is an eternal beautiful potential inner child in all people, and we all deserve patience because there is something worthy in all of us. Sometimes it's very hard to be patient and understanding. But it is often worth it.
Some people hide behind their distrust and hostility because they are so deeply buried in pain. And that's why they need patience. That's not something we should feel obligated to take on. But for those who can share it, it is a magnificent gift.
If you can bring yourself to forgive others, it is all the more important to learn to forgive ourselves.
Have a wonderful evening, everybody.
