Back in 70s-80s, a research project was conducted in a designated 'top-secret' department at [redacted], [redacted], Earth.
1970s – Meeting
Professor: "So, you now have the theory all laid out then? With a mathematical model, of course."
Herbert: "Yes. It is all in this folder."
Herbert looked around at participated people then said:
Herbert: "Who do I give this to?"
A person raised his right arm up in air then said:
John: "That would be me."
An assistant walked to Herbert and extended her arms in a forward manner.
Herbert: “Here.”
The assistant received the folder from Herbert then walked around the conference table, back to John.
Military General: "Herbert, you done a great service to this country. Thank you."
Herbert: “You’re welcome.. may I speak, sir?”
John: “Go ahead.”
Herbert: “I have to ask. What are you planning to do with it?”
John: “Nothing at this moment.”
Military General: “You may leave now. Thank you again.”
Herbert looked around and nodded then said:
Herbert: “Okay.”
1980s – [redacted]
Experimenter: “Finally. See this?”
Researcher: “Don’t be so sure.. instability problems, remember?”
Experimenter: “We factored the [redacted] into the [redacted] equation and then it worked.”
Researcher: “We will need to monitor both and make a long-term prediction. The predecessors have had serious instability problems and then each and [redacted] both collapsed. Almost always so.”
Experimenter: “Well, you are probably right for being cautious. I’m just excited about this. We now have an actual [redacted] and [redacted] working in mutual way for more than one month without any serious problem.”
Both experimenter and researcher stared at the screen.
1990s – Education
Professor: “How is it going?”
Researcher: “Good. We have prepared some first aid books for him.”
Professor: “More education. School or outside? He went to a school at such young age. Of course, I know it is [redacted] but still.”
Researcher: “Both. We plan to provide an early accessibility to the networked computers in around 1993. He probably will pick it up sometime later than that.”
Professor: “An interface to the [redacted] Internet?”
Researcher: “Yes. For accelerated education.”
Professor: “Okay, what about theme?”
Researcher: “We decided to go with the modern version of [redacted].”
The professor frowned slightly then said.
Professor: “I see.”
Researcher: “Do you have a feeling for him?”
Professor: “A little. It happen, sometimes. The process of getting to know someone or something inevitability yields some types of feeling and association.”
Researcher: “I understand.”
2000s – Internet Era
Military General: “What for?”
Researcher: “Psychology. Health.”
Military General: “No.”
The researcher continued:
Researcher: “Insight to the meaning of life behind everything, that could bring an end to all current and any future conflicts.”
Military General wiped his lips with his right hand then said:
Military General: “Not now. We need the [redacted].”
The researcher’s head moved downward then said.
Researcher: “War. Is that all you think of?”
Military General: “Listen.”
The researcher’s head moved upward then she listened. The Military General held his own hands together then said:
Military General: “As long an imperfection exist as it is, there always will be a form of problem or war. From a simple argument to full-scale war. We.. secure the nation, its people, and even its ideas including this.”
Researcher: “I’m sorry. You’re right. I felt that..”
Military General: “For now, just re-focus on the [redacted] mission.”
Researcher: “Yes, sir.”
2010s – Parameter Adjustments
Two experimenters, a researcher, and a scientist sat behind a panel of monitors and control buttons with a large screen atop.
Scientist: “Anomalous signs. As predicted from ingesting a psychoactive ingredient within [redacted].”
Researcher: “[redacted]’s status?”
The scientist looked to right side then said:
Scientist: “Looks normal now, but the recorded data here says a change made to environmental structure in [redacted].”
Researcher: “He made an effect on [redacted]!”
Scientist: “Uh-hmm. We will have to re-check all equipment for any error.”
Experimenter: “Are you saying there is somehow an error with the [redacted]? We just double-checked it.”
Scientist: “I don’t know. We have to re-check and be certain.”
The scientist got up and left.
2020s – Ethics
Researcher: “We are still monitoring the situation, and gathering data. ”
John: “I see.”
Researcher: “Soon or later, he will be freed. We can’t keep him in there for forever.”
John: “I don’t know. What if he is to live until his natural death?”
Researcher: “I pondered about that too. He wouldn’t know the truth then.”
John: “What if it is better if he don’t know the truth and maybe die in peace?”
Researcher: “But.. that don’t seem the right thing to do. Ultimately, this is about morality regarding the truth. He deserve to know the truth. Truth.”
John: “The world is not ready for him or that damned [redacted].”
Researcher: “No one is ever ready for anything. We just must encounter it at some point in time. Just.. like death.”
John: “The responsibility.. ”
John paused for a moment with his left hand on his lips, then put it down and looked at the researcher:
John: “I am scared.”
Researcher: “Me too.”
The end.
