In history, even the invention of the gun had huge implications, because of the shift in balance of power. And were talking about just gunpowder here, which caused a lot of wars, murders, slavery etc because human beings were not able to control its power.
Now we have computer technology. And even gene modification technology to increase people's capacities.
This technology could grow more powerful than human beings which could lead to 2 extremely different scenario's:
1. We will usefully be guided by the technology to become better as a race
2. We will not be able to control it and, whichever happens next, a dark scenario will unfold.
I personally think the balance of power will surely shift, but the question is how.
