Does one needs love themselves to love another?
Yes and no.
I found the love of my life at a time when I was at my most self-hating and self-destructive.
I didn't know how to even love myself or how to receive love until she came along and showed me what that truly looked like.
However, despite many changes in me, the more I grew spiteful without even realizing it and I eventually started pushing her away as far as I could and in as many different ways as I could think of because I still hated myself and did not believe I deserved someone who could love me purely and sincerely and accept all of me, even parts that I could never accept on my own.
I ran the relationship into the ground because I could not accept that love.
It sounds really foolish and, trust me, it was. Incredibly so.
But it taught me a lot and I often learn the hard way.
Because her and I were (and still are) so intricately entwined and our souls impressed and sealed upon one another, even now, then the hate and anger I feel towards myself is actually truly hate and anger towards her. So if I say I love her but I hate myself then I am a liar. Because if I could see clearly then I'd see that she is my mirror and I am hers. By rejecting myself I am rejecting her.

...that sounds like a big "yes" from my reading. You may have found the love of your life, but if you're still rejecting that love in whatever form due to self-hatred you can not fully accept their love, and return that love to its fullest. Take something most have experience with - say jealousy. Someone is talking to your partner and all types of demons raise their heads...I remember a brief brawl I got into with a bikie because my friend was talking to his wife...there was no interest on my friends behalf, he just chatted with everyone. But thanks to the gents issues, his own lack of self love...well read above. His wife likely enjoyed her man "fighting" for her, because in her own insecurity that proved he cares for her because she needed that reinforcement due to her own lack of self love. (I'm not saying don't defend your partner if need be, but that defense should arise as if they were a stranger who clearly needed help in whatever form, not because you feared losing them because they were talking to someone else due to insecurity). "Self-love" is one way to phrase this, but to me it embodies everything from being confident in yourself (mind/body/soul) to fully being able to trust another, because you trust yourself.

You eventually get to a level where you find the same as you but in another person. It gets tricky because you will want to accept them, but your flaws will be the things they do that drive you crazy.
But before you can do that you must first love something that you thought you couldn't love.
And that comes after total loss.
And total loss cannot occur without you giving everything you have and failing without reason. This can cause mental breakdown.
However before you can go all out, you must first learn everything you can and fail and fall for every conceivable trap.
There is a level that is so lonely you will stare down the gun just to feel something stare back at you.
For the market always evens itself out. For every time you help someone out not for glory or something you will be called a selfish mysogynist asshole.
If you donate $100 to a charity anonymously, a family member will steal $100 from your wallet while you're sleeping.
They will kill your dog and your cat because you saved them from the kennel.
When you pour your whole heart into someone, give them your time and effort and love and respect and resources, that will be the one who beats you until you're just a pile of blood.
This is the process. This is the way it is here.
And when you do make it past that, you will find someone like you that can relate to you and understands what it is you're saying. This person won't think you're crazy.
That person will hate you for no reason one day. They will flip scripts and deny they ever met you, or that they themselves ever even.
After that you will find one like you. They will exhibit whatever it is that is your pet peeves with so much intensity you will have no choice but to submit to them and love them.
And they will basically stand next to you all day being as annoying as possible. Never acknowledging you or anything. But you won't need them to.
Because you will have been by yourself so long that you will have no expectations from them. The fact that they stand next to you will be beyond expectation and you will be satisfied beyond anything because you went in with zero expectations.
And that's just the beginning.

The next time yuo walk your dog, assuming you have one, watch where they walk in relation to you. Generally speaking you'll see 3 different positions. First, if they are out in front of you, constantly tugging on the leash, they most likely have little 'home training'. Second, if they walk in perfect pace, side by side, they respect you. Third, if they fall behind, and need to be 'led' along, they are probably scared. Speaks volumes of the owner.

"I always thought that I loved someone."
"Actually, I am love."
"Lovers don't finally meet somewhere." "They're in eachother the whole time."

K9 body language speaks more, and you're they/owner interact

Dogs are ok but not that smart. They are all about minimal patterns and their owners are usually just like them, imho.
Also, dogs are being exploited for their abilities, just like their owners.
Cats are much closer to being like us.
