I want to address two different skill sets. To enable these skill sets, one must have both knowledge of how to create a psi-ball, and also how to program one. Next, one must have a very keen insight into what part of the brain does exactly what.
You may enact flight/fight/freeze response or the opposite, draw/euphoria/relax by targetting the exact same area of the brain with a programmed psi-ball.
Scent memory must be used. In order to discover scent memory, one might need intimate knowledge of said target, or use a general scent memory.
To make the first response more effective, one needs to utilize TWO scents. For example, lets use pig manure and rotting fish guts. You may program the psi-ball to contain both those scents from your own memory. You can affectively direct it to a specific target. One target, because what it is, is a programmed piece of your energy that is joining up with someone else's energy at a specific location and that location is going to "read" the information programmed in the ball.
So...what creates fight/flight/freeze? The amygdala. Yes ladies and gents. An almond in the brain very specific to you.
One may also program it for hostility, death fear, etc etc.
Nextly, you may use just the opposite...a lovely scent (only one is needed) because pleasant scents only need a slight hint of reminder to create a flood of endorphins and euphoria. For instance, if you knew that your friend loved honeysuckle, you might send that scent in the middle of winter. Or, another flower. You would create a natural extreme high. The person would only think it was a mystery smell if they didn't know the source.
Your recognition of whatever scent is going to trigger a reaction via scent memory (what you associate that scent with) in the amygdala. This is one of the most powerful self-defense/offense tricks I've learned. Scent memory is SOOOO strong, that one cannot ignore it.
